The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra
Summer Youth Programs
VFO for Youth is
made up of students entering fourth through eighth grade who are
advancing beginner through intermediate players. Like the
community orchestra, the parts are graduated so that musicians of
various levels can play together. Tunes are also learned in the
traditional format by ear. This provides something for everyone:
ear training, speed facility, ensemble playing, music reading, and
a social network for young folk musicians. Led by Sarah Hotchkiss.
VFO for Advanced Teens
is a group that providing a place for advanced teen fiddlers to
learn tunes in the traditional manner (by ear) at a rapid pace, as
well as providing an opportunity to perform as a band under the
direction of prominent Vermont Fiddlers such as Pete Sutherland
and Sarah Blair.
One day festivals and
workshops will be scheduled during the school year and
youths and teens are also welcome to participate in the community
orchestra for any of the sessions providing they are able to work
well in an adult environment.
